Our Mission
The Wimberley Players present inspiring and entertaining performances and programs that bring our diverse community together through live theatre, events and education.
Our History
Beginnings
The Wimberley Players was founded in 1979 by a group of friends who agreed, “There’s nothing to do in this town.” That has certainly changed. But the Players enjoy the fact that we are the oldest non-profit organization in Wimberley. And the first shows—produced in a lodge meeting room and school auditorium— are remembered with a smile. Lights were hidden in coffee cans and quilts draped from the ceiling to improve sound. Still, audiences applauded live theatre in Wimberley!
Our first official home was the tiny leased Greenhouse Theatre in Woodcreek, eventually outgrown and unusable for lack of space, amenities and proper maintenance.

Recent Past
With extraordinary support from the community, the Players acquired property at 450 Old Kyle Road in 2004. The existing building was extensively renovated and the Wimberley Playhouse welcomed its first audiences in 2006 with a rousing production of “1776.”
The Present
Today the Players are a major force in the cultural life of Wimberley and Central Texas. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit with three paid staff members and volunteers of all ages contributing time and talent to bring each show to life.

We are governed by board of directors representing many interests and skills. We present five major productions each season: comedies, dramas, classics, thrillers, and musicals. In 2020 we began the Summer Outdoor Movies transforming our parking lot into a movie theater with full concessions. We also offer two programs for children, Discovery Theatre, a one-day workshop and First Stage Theatre Camp a three-day introduction to theatre in the summer for children ages 8 - 12.

Over the past several years, we have also produced new works, offering patrons fresh material and a challenging theme or two.
Onward
We find ourselves at an exciting place in our history, inspired by the enthusiasm of our audiences and the influx to our stage of directors, actors and specialists from throughout the area—adding new skills to our strong cadre of local talent.

The Wimberley Players fill a niche in Central Texas by providing both high production quality and a wide range of theatrical experiences. We constantly strive to be the best we can possibly be, offering our patrons truly amazing theatre.
